The green is closed
The green closed at the end of the 2026 season on September 20 after a testing year for the surface - and our greenkeeper, Marley.
After a wet winter and dry start to the summer season, it had to deal with temperamental sprinklers, the challenges of recovering it again, an unseasonally heavy surface for most of the summer and another dry spell right at the end.
It will be interesting to see what condition it is in come next April, when the gates will once again be unlocked for another season of Haywards Heath & Beech Hurst Bowls Club.
But the clubhouse remains open
In the meantime, our short-mat season has begun, with nearly all the morning slots taken.
But there is plenty of scope for afternoon sessions, which are particularly - but not exclusively - aimed at new players who may be starting their short-mat bowls careers.
Contact any of the organisers at the top of the lists in the clubhouse or John Milsom for more details.
Remember, too, that the all-weather surface alongside the green is available for use during the winter.
