Here is captain for the day Basil Larkins' assessment of a victorious day in the Hurstpierpoint sunshine.

We received a warm reception from Hurstpierpoint and the weather was perfect. Scones and jam for tea was a welcome bonus for the visitors.

Hurstpierpoint have a great pavilion and the view south to the Downs make it a wonderful setting.
Captain of the day Basil Larkins' team was up against the Hurstpierpoint team led by their captain, Jo Kaddish.

The home team shot 6-0 ahead but then HH began to claw themselves back into the match and were only one shot behind at tea. After tea the lead changed hands regularly with HH coming out on top, with three shots on the final end to win 16-14, despite winning only eight of the 18 ends.

John Box's team established an early lead but after tea, the home side pulled ahead and won in fine style with five shots on the last to win 19-9.

Bob Sutton's team were the star performers and quickly established a strong lead. Both teams won nine ends but HH scored more on their winning ends and held a 26-11 lead by the finish.

Neville Dalton team had a lucky win despite being outplayed throughout by the hosts and hung on to win 16-8 (just kidding).*

It was our second win in successive days following a 55-43 win over St Francis in the Mid Sussex League less than 24 hours earlier - and our second over Hurstpierpoint in less than three weeks.

*For the record, Neville's four enjoyed a comfortable scoreline without ever feeling comfortable on a tricky green!
