Haywards Heath & Beech Hurst Bowls Club Home

Welcome to your new-look Haywards Heath & Beech Hurst website

New season; new look… and new faces in key places.

Take a look at what’s new.

This website is for you, the club's members - and for people interested in bowls or who would like to find out more.

Rain stays away (for once) for open-day success

The first of our open days on Sunday attracted around 20 people, despite a dismal weather forecast.

With a bit more luck, our second one - on Saturday, June 6 - might attract even more.

It's open to those who want to find out more about the game, have a go and maybe see whether they'd like to join our club.

Open days are how many of us started. You would be most welcome to join us.

  • 10.30am-3pm
  • Free refreshments
  • Equipment provided - just wear flat shoes, please

Find out more about how to join – plus details of membership fees and the opportunity to ask for more information - under Become a Member.

Our NST team enjoy a meal with Henfield A after their draw on May 18 Our NST team enjoy a meal with Henfield A after their draw on May 18

All tied up

It's not the rarest event in the world, but we've just drawn three matches in 15 days - including two in a row.

That's three in our last seven completed games (there's an abandonment and postponement in there, too!).

The latest came on Monday night, in our first Nicholas Soames Trophy match of the season.

Bob and Annie won their Australian Pairs match against Henfield A, but we lost the other two, leaving the aggregate scores level at 45-45.

Curiously, that's precisely the same score as we achieved in our previous game, last Saturday, against Southwater.

Less than two weeks earlier, we drew at Felbridge - this time 46-46.

If nothing else, this illustrates the value of fighting to the end and trying to narrow the scoreline even if we are losing. Those draws would have been defeats if some of our trailing groups had scored just one shot fewer.

Come and watch your team-mates

For details of all our league and friendly matches, see our Fixtures and Results page.

And if you're free to play, put your name on the sign-up sheets in the clubhouse.

But if you're not playing, how about coming along to our home matches to support us?

As well as our friendlies, league matches and internal competitions, some of our members are participating in external contests.

On Friday, May 29 three such matches are scheduled.

Reigning Ladies champion Linda takes on Caren Stoffberg, of Southgate Park, at midday in the Champion of Champions competition..

Then at 2pm Mark Gooch, the Men's champ, faces Popes Mead's Paul Leare in the men's version.

At 6pm we are due to host Burgess Hill A in the Sussex County Bowls Men's Senior Fours Championship.

*On Tuesday, a ladies' four, comprising Nicola, Jill Hatfield, Fiona and Marge lost 9-29 in the first round of the Gladys Rowland Cup in the rain on Portslade's artificial surface.
