Andrew makes fine start in champions competition
Congratulations to Andrew Croft, who enjoyed a huge victory in the first round of this year's Mid Sussex Champion of Champions competition.
Our reigning men's champion beat Debbie Mayo, of Newick, 21-5 on his opponent's green.
As an impeccably neutral observer noted: "Although the score looks like an easy match, they were all hard-fought ends."
After conceding the very first point, Andrew moved into an 11-1 lead after nine ends, before a three threatened to bring Debbie back into contention. But as usual, Andrew was unfazed and continued to pick up shots, eventually sealing the victory on the 15th end.
He will play either Henfield's serial trophy winner, Dave Phillipson, or Mick Christian, of Burgess Hill, in the next round.
